Manu Chandaria, Father Joseph Mutie honoured with Global Peace Awards

Renowned businessman and CEO of Comcraft Group Dr Manu Chandaria and the National Chairman of the Interreligious Council of Kenya Father Joseph Mutie have been honoured with Global Peace Awards.

Dr Chandaria and Father Mutie were conferred international accolades during the 2023 Global Peace Convention held in Manila, Philippines.

The annual award seeks to recognize exceptional individuals from across the globe who have made remarkable contributions to the promotion of peace and shared prosperity.

The pair were feted for their outstanding leadership and commitment to building a more peaceful world.

Dubbed as one of Kenya’s top industrialists, Chandaria was accorded the Legacy of Service and Peace Award for his extensive charitable work and contributions to the global community through the Chandaria Foundation.

The foundation has been instrumental in funding projects such as hospitals, clinics, schools, universities, and environmental initiatives. 

His partnership with the Global Peace Foundation has also been instrumental in mitigating election violence and promoting peace in Kenya.

Father Mutie was on the other hand feted with the Interfaith and Spiritual Leadership Award for his role in promoting peace, interfaith cooperation, and unity in the country.

Reverend Mutie who also doubles up as the General Secretary of the Organization of African Instituted Churches – Kenya Chapter was lauded for his efforts in providing moral guidance to the nation, fostering partnerships across different faiths, races, and tribes.

The decoration recognized his collaboration with the GPF which came up with initiatives to address critical issues, such as election violence, child marriage, healthcare, and environmental conservation. 

Other categories recognized in the event included Freedom of Religion and Conscience, Strengthening Families, Outstanding Service, Innovative Scholarship, Philanthropy and Corporate Citizenship, and Culture of Peace.

Some of the notable awardees were the former Guatemalan President Vinicio Cerezo, recognized for his peacebuilding efforts and commitment to regional integration in Latin America, Human rights advocate Greg Scarlatoiu who is known for his work in promoting human rights in North Korea.

SM Supermall President Steven Tan was awarded for actively championing youth empowerment and global peace through innovative platforms such as the Global Youth Summit.
