A 40-year-old man is receiving treatment at Mwingi Level Four Hospital after being shot by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Migwani, Kitui County.

The incident occurred after an angry mob arrested two women suspected of livestock theft and recovered six goats believed to have been stolen from different homesteads.

The victim, Kimanzi Musili, sustained a gunshot wound to his left shoulder. He is currently recuperating at the hospital as members of the public demand the immediate arrest of the OCS involved in the shooting.

Migwani Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Rukia Sitati condemned the rising cases of livestock theft in the region and warned that all those involved—including accomplices—would be brought to justice.

Mwingi West Member of Parliament Charles Nguna also criticized the incident, urging the police not to misuse their firearms.

“Police officers are entrusted with firearms to protect citizens, not to harm them,” he said. Nguna appealed to the Inspector General of Police to ensure that officers strictly adhere to the six legal circumstances under which they are permitted to use their firearms.
