Man sets house on fire while still inside with his wife in Machakos

A man is presently being detained at the Matuu Police Station in Machakos County after allegedly setting his house on fire with himself and his wife still inside.

He is said to have locked the house from inside using a padlock, hidden the keys in his pocket, before lighting  up a gas cooker and then a mattress.

A huge fire then engulfed the home while the couple was inside, causing the wife to raise alarm.

According to area village elder Peter Mutungi, neighbours responded immediately and broke into the house through the window, rescuing both the man and his wife.

Mutungi however confirmed that the couple’s house was burnt to ashes in the process.

Matuu Police Station OCS Peter Mugambi confirmed that the man is currently being questioned.
