Makadara Magistrate Monica Kivuti dies after shooting by senior police officer in court

Magistrate Kivuta was shot in the chest and pelvic area by Chief Inspector Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto, the OCS Londiani Police Station, during an active session at the Makadara Law Courts.

The OCS was shot dead by officers who responded to the incident.

A court orderly and two other officers who tried to remove the Magistrate from the scene and secure the courtroom also sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.

According to police, Chief Inspector Kipruto forcibly entered the courtroom and opened fire at the Magistrate after the court determined that his wife be remanded for violating her bond terms. 

The officer's wife, Jenniffer Wairimu aged 48 years was accused in a case of obtaining money by false pretence amounting to Ksh.2.9 million.
