Magistrate, KDF colonel among 30 arrested partying at a bar in Embakasi

A magistrate and a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Colonel were among 30 people arrested at an unbridled party in Embakasi on Friday evening.

Officers acting on a tip-off from a member of the public raided the bar and arrested the revellers  who had defied the government’s directives on social distancing.

The party-goers will be spending the Easter weekend in the slammer until Tuesday when they will be arraigned in court.

The Ministry of Health previously appealed to Kenyans to cease attending all forms of gatherings to avert the spread of the novel coronavirus,

On Monday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said police officers were pursuing four Kenyans who had hailed an ambulance to transport them to a party after the government imposed a Nairobi metropolitan area lockdown.

Elsewhere, police officers arrested several people the past weekend at a party in Nairobi’s Garden Estate, off Thika Road.

Officers acting on a tip-off raided the house and managed to lock the owner of the house and several other people awaiting their processing by a medical team.

Several other people managed to flee the scene.

Kenya currently has 189 cases of the new coronavirus with the ministry of health projecting the numbers could reach 10,000 cases by end of April.

Kenyans have been implored to observe social distancing, wear masks as well as wash their hands with soap and water regularly.
