Madrassa teachers urged to preach peace

Muslim clerics and Sheikhs in North Eastern Counties have been called upon by area leaders to teach and preach peace among the youth and children in Madrasas as a way of preventing radicalisation in the area.

Speaking at Oda in Tana River County during a fundraiser in aid of Madrasa teachers, Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullah said that Islam is undergoing tough times because of Al-shaabab, further citing that his county as one of the hardest hit by terror.

The governor added that the propaganda being peddled by the terror groups is aimed at causing desperation among the Kenyan youth so that they can be easily recruited into the group.

On his part, Mandera Central MP Abdikadir Mohamed lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for lifting the dawn to dusk curfew imposed on the north eastern counties of Garisa, Wajir, Mandera, Tana River and Lamu during the Holy month of Ramadhan.

The MP urged the youth to desist from being recruited to join Al-shaabab and ISIS

A total of Sh4 million was raised in aid of Madrassa teachers in Tana Delta Sub County during the event.
