Lioness spotted jumping into home in Rongai, killing a dog

A video of a lioness scaling the perimeter wall of a home in Rongai back out with a black dog has spread fear to area residents.

Initially, it appears the people in the neighbourhood were unsure of what was happening to their dogs but they've now established that the disappearance is caused by lions who prowl the area at night and stage surprise ambushes.

In the 1.15 seconds CCTV footage, a lioness is seen stealthily scaling a perimeter wall before it takes some minutes to survey the area below. It then jumps into a compound and, seconds later, it can be seen jumping back out, with a black dog tightly clasped in its teeth.

It then loiters around the pathway for a moment before disappearing into the night.

An anonymous message seen by Citizen Digital confirms the lioness' invasion.

It reads: "The animal eating our dogs is a lioness. No need to guess anymore. She was captured by my CCTV  cameras at around 9pm ( exact time in the videos) at (Neighbour’s) gate and shortly later jumping over my front gate and returning carrying my Rottweiler."

"It is painful to lose a friend who always welcomes me at the gate whenever I come back home!"

On May 16, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) cautioned residents of Lang'ata in Nairobi, about three roaming lions in the area.

According to the wildlife service, it received reports about the three lions after they were allegedly sighted near Langata Women's Prison in Nairobi.

In response, KWS promptly mobilized a team and conducted a thorough search of the area.

However, after a long night of searching for the wild animals, they were unable to spot the lions.

"KWS continues to monitor the situation closely and remains on high alert. Ensuring the safety of the public is our top priority," KWS noted in a statement.

The wildlife body is yet to notify the public on whether the lions were found.
