Two people were on Tuesday killed while two Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers were among 10 injured following an ambush by suspected Al-Shabaab militants at Bodhei area in Lamu County.

Reports say that at around 8:30am, a convoy of Chinese and LAPSSET workers was waylaid by the assailants around Algis-Malhadhon area, which is 7 kilometres away from the Bodhai Police Station and GSU camp.

The convoy was leaving a Chinese residential camp and was heading to a nearby working site when the incident occurred.

The assailants reportedly fired a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) towards a fuel tanker, tipper and pick up that were part of the convoy.

KDF soldiers repulsed the attackers who escaped inside the Boni Forest.

Both the deceased persons, who were occupants of the fuel tanker, died on the spot.
