At least seven people have lost their lives in Kwale County following the heavy rains that are pounding the region.

The seven include two Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers who were swept by floods while crossing the flooded river Ramisi in Lungalunga sub-county.

The two were travelling from Lungalunga station to Mombasa when the incident happened on Friday night.

The car they were travelling in has been retrieved but their bodies are still missing.

Two other people were swept by floods in Tiwi ward where one body has been retrieved and one is still missing.

Another person was swept in Vanga.

One person was also swept by floods in Kinango while another person was electrocuted in Msambweni as he was pruning a tree in the rain.

The rains have caused havoc across the county, leaving at least 681 households affected and over 1,000 acres of farms destroyed.

In Diani, 108 houses have been submerged in water forcing the occupants to spend the night in the cold.
