The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central
Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced an extension to the online application
platform for institutions of higher learning.
KUCCPS CEO Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome, in a
statement on Friday, said the earlier deadline of February 22 has now been
pushed to February 26, 2024.
She said the new changes would give more room
for the 2024 KCSE students applying for universities or colleges to ensure that
no candidate misses out on the opportunity.
“In the spirit of ensuring that no one is left
behind, KUCCPS has extended the application deadline to February 26, 2024,”
stated Dr. Wahome.
“I take this opportunity to assure all those
seeking training opportunities through the KUCCPS portal that no one will be
left behind.”
The KUCCPS boss noted that the online portal which was opened on February 7, 2024, has recorded a higher number of degree
applicants compared to those applying for Technical and Vocational Education
and Training (TVET) programs so far.
Dr. Wahome went on to appeal to those with
mean grades between C and E to take advantage of the available TVET
opportunities.
“Particularly, applicants with D+ and E are
still very low and we are encouraging them to apply. They should walk into
their nearest TVET institution for assistance,” she stated.
Despite underscoring that the application
will target all Form Four leavers from other years to 2000, she noted that the
portal would only allow 2023 candidates to apply for degree programs in
universities.
“Those from all other years can apply for
courses offered at the Open University of Kenya, Technical and Vocational
Education and Training (TVET) institutions, Teacher Training Colleges and the
Kenya Medical Training College,” KUCCPS noted.
The KUCCPS chief further revealed that the
government is currently working with Huduma Centres and various universities
and colleges countrywide to guide applicants on the process, adding that a list
of the support centers is available on the State agency’s website.
