KRA seizes counterfeit cigarettes worth Ksh.7 million in Nakuru
A multi-agency team comprising officers from the Directorate
of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in
Nakuru has confiscated fake cigarettes worth Ksh.7 million that were being
packaged at Pipeline area in Nakuru East.
The
officers nabbed 47 boxes of packaged cigarettes with each box containing 10,000
cigarettes at a residential house as fake KRA stamps were also confiscated.
Police
are in pursuit of the owner of the house who they say fled after getting wind
of the raid.
Nakuru
County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara said the operation against illegal goods
will continue, adding that the government is losing Ksh.12.4 million in taxes
through such businesses.
