KNUT warns teachers against sexually abusing learners
Speaking during the AGM of Kirinyaga KNUT branch on Saturday, KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu said the union will not defend any teacher involved in the unlawful act.
Oyuu said the union fully supports dismissal of sex pests across the country adding that such persons should not be allowed to continue teaching children but instead put in jail.
He called on KNUT branch officials and executive members to be extra vigilant and wipe out teachers who are violating the rights of children whom their entrusted to teach.
In addition, Oyuu warned the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) against delaying allowances of the invigilators and supervisors who will be deployed during the upcoming national exams.
He said the union will call for an industrial action if the council fails to release of allowances to all examiners in time.
Oyuu said that in the past, the council had failed to honour their pledges forcing the union to push to payments of teachers for some months.
He urged KNEC to make prior arrangements so that after the exams examiners will not have to wait for their dues.
