Police in Kisumu Central Sub-county have arrested Kibuye Market chairlady Judith Matengo, popularly known as Nyaramba, following the circulation of a viral video showing her assaulting two female traders with a wooden rod.

Matengo was apprehended on Monday night while hiding within the market precincts, shortly after the footage sparked public outrage.

The victims, Mercy Okoth and Rozette Adhiambo, have since recorded statements with authorities.

According to a police report, the two women sustained soft-tissue injuries during the broad-daylight incident, which was captured by fellow traders.

They later sought medical attention at Lumumba Sub-county Hospital. Investigators say the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

Police confirmed they are also tracking additional suspects believed to have been involved in the assault.

Matengo is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday to face charges related to the incident.
