Kisii County Assembly Speaker David Kombo locked out of office, again
Embattled Kisii County Assembly Speaker David
Kombo has vowed to resume his duties effective Wednesday.
This comes after he found his
office locked for the second week since the assembly resumed operations last week following
a long December recess. He reported the incident at Kisii Central Police Station.
The same scenario was witnessed on Tuesday
when Kombo came to the assembly premises only to find his office locked.
Speaking to the press, Kombo said both the High
Court and the Court of Appeal had ruled that he is the recognized Speaker of
the County Assembly, as such he will abide by the rulings.
Kombo has not presided over the assembly’s
proceedings for close to 14 months now following an impeachment motion that was
aborted in November 2020.
In the period, chaos were witnessed in the
assembly that saw Boochi Borabu MCA Samuel Onuko preside over the proceedings
for approximately two months.
Onuko similarly presided over a sitting that
tried to impeach Kombo for a second time, but it again flopped, owing to
problems witnessed during the tallying of votes. Despite this, Onuko declared
Kombo impeached.
Kombo would later move to court to challenge
the impeachment.
Thereafter, Bokimonge MCA Amos Onderi took
over and acted for some time before he handed over to Deputy Speaker Davins
Onuso, who is in charge to date.
