Kirinyaga Jubilee officials dismiss Karua’s interest to lead county

Jubilee Party officials in Kirinyaga County have dismissed Narc Kenya leader, Martha Karua’s, interest in the county’s governorship seat in the 2017 General Election.

In a press briefing at Kutus town on Monday, November 22 the officials led by the county’s interim party chair, John Kathungu, and Secretary, Waweru Gachibiri, said that Kuria’s failure to dissolve her party and join Jubilee is telling of her insincerity in his supposed support for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid.

The official noted that Karua has been issuing conflicting signals over her support to the President and she cannot be trusted.

The officials claimed that the 2013 presidential aspirant was only riding on President Kenyatta’s name to gain political mileage in the race that pits her against former Devolution Cabinet Secretary, Anne Waiguru, the incumbent Joseph Ndathi among other aspirants.

The officials stated that Jubilee party will treat Narc-Kenya like any other Opposition party that is against Uhuru’s re-election.

The officials who had earlier held a meeting with Kirinyaga County presidential campaign coordinator Njogu Barua insisted that those interested in supporting Uhuru Kenyatta candidature should be ready to dissolve their parties and join Jubilee.

The officials’ stand comes a week after Karua, in an interview on Citizen TV’s Cheche, refused to disclose which candidate she would support in the 2017 elections, having resorted to vie for governorship.

She, however, said that her reported support for Uhuru in Kirinyaga was misconstrued by the media noting that it was a reflection of what the choice of the county’s Narc Kenya branch.

She said that her decision not to make public who she will support in the next elections is advised by her willingness to allow other Narc Kenya branches in the 30 counties that the party has presence to choose a candidate of their own.

“Many branches in the Mount Kenya area have said they will back Uhuru, and I respect their choice. But I still hold that each branch in the 30 counties that Narc Kenya has presence in should choose whoever they want to support in the presidential race.”

Karua further remarked that, though Narc Kenya will not have a presidential candidate, it will not fold up and join any coalition.
