Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru joins DP Ruto's UDA
The Governor, who is seeking to defend her seat in 2022, was welcomed to the 'hustler movement' on Tuesday morning following a meeting with DP Ruto at his official residence in Karen.
"Wale watu ambao tunatuhudumia kule mashinani wote wametuambia chama ni UDA na form ni hustler na mpango ni bottom-up...," said Waiguru at Karen.
She was accompanied by a group of about 23 Kirinyaga Members of County Assembly.
Governor Waiguru's political allegiance has in the recent remained a subject of speculation, after she stated on a Citizen TV interview that defending her seat on a Jubilee ticket would be an uphill task.
She claimed that the Mt Kenya region is dissatisfied with how the party has been run over the last five years.
“If I ran today on a Jubilee ticket and someone else ran on a different party, even if people felt I had performed , it would be hard to convince them to vote for me,” Waiguru said last month.
While Waiguru had remained tight-lipped on her next political move, she had earlier given an indication that she was considering joining the DP Ruto-led political movement.
While addressing members of public at Thiba area in Mwea Constituency last month, the governor asked the crowd whether they would re-elect her as Governor of Kirinyaga County and they responded on the affirmative.
She went ahead to ask them twice on which ticket she should seek re-election and they chanted UDA.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen how Waiguru will battle it out with her political rival; Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici, who is also in UDA and is seeking to defeat her and become Governor in 2022.
