A 49-year-old man and his 12-year-old son died under mysterious circumstances on Thursday while fishing on their family's land in Rogoi village, Kirinyaga County.

Samuel Kariuki's lifeless body and that of his son, a Grade 5 pupil, were found entangled in a fishing net they were supposedly using to harvest fish from a swamp meandering through their land.

The discovery came after Kariuki's wife, Anastacia Nduku, raised alarm upon arriving home from Makima on Thursday and not finding the pair, even though it was already dark.

"I had to call  my other  family member  to help me trace them  but they were nowhere to be seen. We  found them dead in a fishing net at the  swamp in the  morning. We don't know what happened," Nduku told Citizen Digital.

The bodies have since been moved to Kerugoya Hospital Mortuary.

The deceased's family are now appealing for help to put their kin to rest, with Nduku highlighting that Kariuki was the sole breadwinner in the family.
