Kirinyaga: Domestic dispute turns ugly as woman kills her two children aged 3 and 4

A contractor harvesting murram in the village left the man-made marsh, which meanders through the village, open.

According to Kirinyaga-west sub-county police commander Moses Koskei, a woman named Grace Wambui, 20, killed her two boys, ages three and four, by throwing them into a swamp following a domestic dispute.

According to the villagers led by Thomas Kabuci, on whose land the swamp is located, they discovered the woman and her two children near the swamp and asked her what her problem was.

Mr Kabuci told Citizen.Digital that the woman stated that she wanted to commit suicide and throw her two children into the swamp after her husband kicked her out of their home.

"I could not believe it after I talked with my family who provided them with porridge and talked with her before I went to buy airtime to call her family,"  Kabuci said.

Kabuci said he could believe it because he was returning from Kiandai Shopping Centre to buy airtime when he discovered the woman being beaten by the residents after he threw her two children into the swamp.

' The woman who looked depressed was later rescued by police officers from the Kiandai police post as residents were struggling to retrieve the bodies of her two children.' Kabuci said.

According to Michael Mwangi, who recovered the two bodies, he was fishing in the swamp when he noticed Wambui throwing her two children into the water and raised the alarm.

' I raised an alarm after I saw her throwing her two children into water where she had  started by throwing a banana peel , then  threw her  two children  one by one,I could not act immediately as I was fishing two kilometers away from where she was,it took me  over five minutes to reach where she was .' Mwangi said.

A shocked Pastor Peter Munene, who is the family friend, came immediately after an alarm was raised, where he revealed that the woman and her husband had been having domestic problems. 

'Mental problem is real  and we will continue with counselling despite Wambui killing her two children.' Pastor Munene said.

Kirinyaga west sub-county police commander Moses Koskei said they have commenced investigations after the woman was taken to the  hospital after she was beaten by the villagers before being taken to baricho police station.'

The two bodies have been taken to Kerugoya mortuary, awaiting postmortem.' Police boss said.
