Kirinyaga: 12-year-old boy dies after slipping into cattle dip

A 12-year-old boy has died after he slipped in a cattle dip at Kiandegwa village in Mwea West, Kirinyaga County.

Kimuri sub-location assistant chief Julius Gatere said the boy left his parents in a local church on Sunday and after a few minutes, they were informed by other children while in the church that he had slipped into the cattle dip.

The boy's parents, led by his father Shem Ngari termed the sudden death of their child as shocking.

Following the incident, angry Kiandegwa residents vowed to demolish the community cattle dip they said has been unused for years.

“We are going to demolish the cattle dip if the County Government of Kirinyaga will not demolish it. It has been here since 1978 and it has no use,” one resident Jeremiah Kariuki said.

The boy’s body was taken to the Mwea Mission Hospital awaiting postmortem.

Assistant Chief Waweru further urged parents to take care of their children during this period the government has postponed the opening of schools in the country over ongoing floods.
