Sean Andrew, the grandson of late former President Mwai Kibaki, has come to the defence of Jomo Kenyatta, the son of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, over claims that he holds unlicensed guns.

In an interview, Andrew also defended Mama Ngina Kenyatta, the mother to Uhuru, whose security was withdrawn by the state, for allegedly funding opposition protests in Kenya.

Andrew said he believes it is unfair to target Jomo and his grandmother Ngina, and urged the state to find a solution by holding talks with the opposition.

"Jomo is someone I know personally, and I think he was unfairly targeted. I'm not gonna pick sides politically or anything, but I think Jomo is innocent, and so is Mama Ngina. They should not have targeted anyone," Andrew said.

"It's unrelated to what their issues are. I think these are grown men, and they should talk it out," he added.

Asked on whether he plans to venture into politics in the future, Andrew said a big no and added that one does not have to be a politician to help people.

He said he believes he can help people in his own private capacity, and politics is not his cup of tea.

"I think you can help a great number of people without being a politician."

The Kenyatta family has been in the limelight lately, where government has accused the former president of funding protests.

Uhuru was forced to intervene when unknown people went to his son's house in Karen and demanded that he surrenders his guns.

The state claimed Jomo had guns in his house, but in court documents and in an interview with journalists, Uhuru said his two sons have three firearms each.

Uhuru has dared the state to go for him and leave his family out of the saga.
