Kericho GK Prison on total lockdown after 48 test positive for COVID-19
The Kericho GK Prison in Kericho town has been placed under complete lockdown after 48 members of staff and inmates tested positive for COVID-19.
In a notice from the department of health in Kericho, movement in and outside the facility has been halted.
The move was arrived at to curb further spread of the coronavirus in and out of the facility.
Relatives with inmates in prison have been advised to hold all visits to the facility until further notice.
On Thursday Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony said the health department had launched a mass-testing exercise after a member of staff tested positive earlier.
He said the 48 cases were in stable condition and contact tracing had kicked off.
