The Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA) National chairman Johnson Nzioka died in a road accident on Sunday at Athi River on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu sent his condolences remembering Nzioka as a leader with distinct diplomatic skills that helped redefine KEPSHA at a time when Education management in the country was undergoing strategic reforms.
“Nzioka has been a regular contributor to teachers’ well-being generally. He will be remembered for his soft but forthright speaking especially while brokering peace among his members,” he said.
Oyuu added that the late KEPSHA chairman stood out as a great mobilizer for head teachers’ activities and a negotiator for their welfare.
“On behalf of the KNUT National Executive Council, that of the entire leadership of teachers in Kenya and on my own behalf, I wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to his wife, children, his entire family and the teaching fraternity in Kenya,” Oyuu added.
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia said that Kenya has lost one of its most gallant academics, adding that Nzioka will be missed by the teaching fraternity and the entire education sector.
"His incredible academic performance and commitment to service saw Nzioka rise, most deservedly, from the position of classroom teacher in 1987 to Headship in 2012," Macharia noted.
Before his demise, Nzioka was serving as the Headteacher of Donholm Primary and Junior Secondary Schools in Nairobi.
KEPSHA Treasurer Kennedy Kyeva confirmed earlier said that Nzioka's body will be moved to Lee Funeral Home on Monday.
