The Ministry of Lands and Housing has invited members of the public to purchase ready units constructed under the government's affordable housing project in Bondeni, Nakuru County.

In an advertisement on Tuesday, interested buyers have been advised to visit the site for viewing and later register on the Boma Yangu Portal (https://www.bomayangu.go.ke/) to purchase their units of choice.

The ministry stated that two-bedroom units measuring 64sqm will be going for Ksh.3.15 million while 3-bedroom units measuring 85sqm will cost Ksh.4.25 million.

Buyers will be required to pay a 10% deposit to qualify for the purchase.

Once qualified, a buyer will be offered a rent-to-own home loan at a monthly rate of Ksh.16,997 for the two-bedroom house and Ksh.22,933 for the three-bedroom house.

The project is among the key development pillars in President William Ruto's government, targeting the over 6.5 million Kenyans living in slums and informal settlements.

Currently, according to State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed, the government is seeking to create a new generation of homeowners under the Housing Programme by constructing 250,000 houses every year for low-income earners.

“The President has already commissioned 17, 850 units in Mukuru, Rongai, and Kibera to ease the housing burden affecting low-income earners,” said Mohamed at a past event.

He added that the construction of another 28,942 units is ongoing countrywide.

The project, however, has hit a snag after the courts barred the collection of the Housing Levy, arguing that it is unconstitutional.

Ruto has committed to the success of the project, which he argues will help cure the unemployment dilemma in the nation.
