Kenya to host Africa solar energy conference to drive renewable energy goals
The three-day event, taking place from November 13 to 15 at the Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi, is supported by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum. It aims to support Kenya's ambitious goal of powering its national grid with 100% renewable energy by 2030.
The conference will bring together leaders from across the energy sector, including KenGen, Kenya Power, and other key stakeholders. Industry leaders will discuss critical themes such as grid flexibility, renewable integration, and investment opportunities, focusing on advancing Kenya’s clean energy infrastructure.
Lei Wu, COO of Sungrow, noted that the event provides a platform for collaboration to drive East Africa’s green energy transition.
“As Kenya advances its renewable targets, this conference allows us to explore solutions that align with our shared vision for sustainable energy in East Africa."
Currently, Kenya’s energy grid is 90% renewable, with sources like geothermal (45%), hydropower (19%), solar (17%), and wind (3%)—making it a global leader in clean energy.
Organized by Verifair, Powerelec Kenya 2024 also includes a special networking reception on November 14, aimed at fostering partnerships in Kenya’s renewable energy sector.
“Kenya’s leadership in renewable energy provides a strong foundation for this gathering, and we are eager to build connections that will accelerate Africa's clean energy transition,” said Jeen Joshua, Managing Director of Verifair.
Powerelec Kenya 2024 is expected to draw over 250 delegates and features an exhibition of innovations in solar, energy storage, and sustainable power systems. It will also include a networking reception to foster further collaboration among stakeholders as East Africa pushes toward a greener, more resilient energy future.
