Kenya records 108 new COVID-19 infections, positivity rate at 2.1%
The Ministry of Health on Wednesday announced
that 108 people contracted COVID-19 from a sample size of 5,073 tested in the
last 24 hours marking a positivity rate of 2.1%.
This now brings the total confirmed positive
cases to 255,652 while cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,868,498.
From the cases, 97 are Kenyans while 11 are
foreigners; 57 are males and 51 are females, while the youngest is a
three-year-old and the oldest is 95 years.
The cases were distributed across various
counties as follows: Nairobi 50, Nyamira 18, Meru 8, Nakuru 4, Kakamega 3,
Siaya 3, West Pokot 2, Mombasa 3 Busia 2, Kiambu 2, Kajiado 2, Elgeyo Marakwet
1, Kericho 1, Kirinyaga 1, Kisumu 1, Kwale 1, Mandera 1, Migori 1, Narok 1, Taita
Taveta 1, Baringo 1 and Bungoma 1.
The ministry said that no death was recorded,
hence the cumulative fatalities still stand at 5,337.
The ministry also added that 21 patients
recovered from the disease, 18 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program
while 3 were discharged from health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries
rose to 248,473.
“A total of 207 patients are currently
admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 830 are under the
Home-Based Isolation and Care program,” read the statement by Health Cabinet
Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.
“Two patients are in the Intensive Care Unit
(ICU), all of them being on ventilatory support. Another 51 patients are
separately on supplemental oxygen with 49 of them being in the general wards.
Two patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU),”
The CS further said a total of 7,787,262
vaccines had been administered across the country as of December 7,
2021. Of these, 4,724,235 were partially vaccinated while those fully
vaccinated were 3,055,726.
"The uptake of the second dose among
those who received their first dose was at 57.3%. The proportion of
adults fully vaccinated was 11.2%,” said Kagwe.
