Kenya is set to expand its tourism landscape by launching nine regional circuits under the Tembea Kenya initiative.

This move, spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, aims to promote both domestic and international travel while focusing on untapped tourism experiences.

During the launch in Kisumu County, Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano stressed the importance of aligning these circuits with current tourism trends, such as adventure, eco-tourism, and wellness.

“These tourism circuits will offer a holistic and immersive experience, taking visitors on a journey through Kenya's diverse attractions. We have incorporated emerging niches such as adventure, sports, culture, eco-tourism, wellness tourism and other segments. Every region has a unique reason to visit and we encourage travelers to savor the diverse experiences," said CS Miano.

“As we unveil the nine tourism circuits, I also call upon Kenyans to showcase the best of their home regions through photography. We shall be inviting Kenyans to share and showcase the best of their regions through a photo contest,” added CS Miano.

Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, who is also Chair of the Council of Governors' Tourism and Wildlife Committee, advocated for increased government funding to grow the tourism sector, seeing it as a vital contributor to GDP and youth employment. He praised the launch and vowed to push for prioritization of tourism in all counties.

Additionally, the Ministry hopes to strengthen partnerships with counties, as Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa highlighted the strategy's potential to increase visitor stays, repeat visits, and overall growth.

Kenya Tourism Board CEO June Chepkemei also emphasized that the new circuits will enhance Kenya's status as a top global destination by showcasing the country's varied attractions.

The unveiled circuits spanning all the 47 counties include the Nairobi Circuit, Central Kenya Circuit, Coastal Circuit, Northern Circuit, Western Circuit, Southern Circuit, North Rift Circuit, South Rift Circuit, and Eastern Circuit.

The Tourism Ministry will be seeking to highlight some of the most iconic attractions within its region.
