Kenya joins global condemnation of Mogadishu attack

Kenya's Ministry of Defence has joined the Somali and UAE governments in strongly condemning the recent attack on the UAE-run General Gordon Camp in Mogadishu, Somalia.

The assault, which took place on Saturday, February 10, 2024, sparked global condemnation and calls for anti-terrorist solidarity.

Kenya's Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, expressed heartfelt condolences and prayers to the families and friends of the victims who tragically died in the incident. 

He also wished those injured or affected a speedy recovery, as well as paid tribute to the brave soldiers who gave their lives in the line of duty, emphasizing their unwavering commitment to peace and stability.

"My prayers and sincere sympathies go out to the families and friends of all those who died in the unfortunate attack as well as to those who were injured or otherwise affected; I wish them a speedy recovery," CS Duale said in a statement on Sunday. 

"We commend the efforts of the Gallant soldiers who lost their lives even as we condole with the UAE and their families."

CS Duale expressed confidence in the UAE and its citizens' ability to overcome adversity and continue the fight against terrorism. 

Kenya reiterated its unwavering support for the African Transition Mission in Somalia, emphasizing the shared determination to reduce and eliminate the threat posed by Al Shabaab terrorists.

Amid investigations into the incident, the global community stands united in its condemnation of terrorism and its commitment to promoting peace and security in Somalia and beyond.
