Kenya Ferry Services gives Mariam Kigenda family Ksh.200K for burial

The Kenya Ferry Services has given Mariam Kigenda’s family Ksh.200,000 for funeral arrangements.

KFS said the funds are for the burial ceremony of Mariam and her four-year-old daughter Amanda who perished in the Likoni ferry tragedy.

The agency’s corporate services officer Elizabeth Wachira confirmed that Ksh.100,000 was given to the widower John Wambua and a separate Ksh.100,000 to Peter Mwaghogho, father to the late Mariam.

The bodies of the two victims were retrieved from Likoni channel 13 days after their car plunged into the Indian Ocean midstream.

However, the family is yet to be given the bodies for burial as a post mortem examination has not been carried out at the Coast General Hospital.

The widower, Mr. Wambua has since faulted KFS over his wife’s death saying: “She has been driving for over 10 years, she is a very careful driver… I doubt it was her negligence, you saw the car, it was in parking gear, the handbrake was activated.”

He believes that investigations will revealed what actually caused the car to plunge into the water.

The late Mariam andher daughter Amanda are to be buried in Mung’ala village, Makueni County.
