Motorists using the Nakuru–Kampi ya Moto Road are facing
traffic disruptions following the emergence of a sinkhole near Kiamunyi, close
to Riva Petrol Station, approximately 1.5 kilometres from the KFA Roundabout.
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), in a public
advisory issued on Wednesday, confirmed that emergency maintenance works are
currently underway to address the situation.
The sinkhole, whose sudden appearance has affected a crucial
stretch of the busy road, has necessitated immediate safety and repair
measures.
As a result, traffic flow along this section has been
redirected, with KeNHA urging all motorists travelling to and from Nakuru,
Eldoret, and Baringo to use the designated diversion route.
The State agency noted that police officers and traffic
marshals have since been deployed to the scene to guide and manage traffic
around the affected area.
"For safety, motorists should approach the affected
section with caution, adhere to the traffic signs displayed, and follow the
guidance provided by the traffic marshals and police at the scene,"KeNHA
said in the statement.
The highway authority did not specify how long the repairs
would take but reassured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to
restore normalcy as quickly and safely as possible.
