Kamau Thugge appointed CBK Governor

Kamau
Thugge has officially been appointed as the new governor of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK)
for the next four years.
In a
Gazette notice dated June 13, 2023, President William Ruto said Dr Thugge’s appointment
takes effect on June 19.
“IN
EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 13 (1) of the Central Bank of Kenya
Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and
Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces appoint KAMAU THUGGE (DR.) to be the
Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, for a period of four (4) years, with
effect from the 19th June, 2023,” read the notice.
The
National Assembly Finance and Planning Committee on June 6 recommended that Parliament approves Thugge’s nomination.
Dr
Thugge, a former Treasury Principal Secretary, was nominated by President Ruto
on May 15 ahead of the imminent retirement of Dr Patrick Njoroge who has been
CBK governor since June 2015.
At the same time, Noordin Haji has been appointed the new Director-General of the National Intelligence
Service (NIS).
In the June 13 Gazette notice, President Ruto
said: “IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 7 (4) of the National
Intelligence Service Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of
Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces appoint NOORDIN MOHAMED HAJI
to be the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service.”
Haji took the oath of office on Wednesday at State House, Nairobi, at a ceremony presided over by President Ruto.
