The Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) has successfully contained a fuel leakage along the Sinendet-Kisumu pipeline which occurred on Friday morning in Kanyamedha area, Kisumu County.

The incident, which occurred at around 12:30am, saw police cordon off the Kondele-Airport bypass in a bid to deter locals from collecting the spilled fuel.

Firefighters similarly used firefighting foam in a bid to neutralize the effect of the spillage.

“KPC Emergency Response Team was then dispatched to the site and emergency procedures were immediately initiated; among them, containment and recovery of hydrocarbons by reticulation of the product back to pump station (PS) 28 in Kisumu to prevent it from spreading further,” KPC said in a statement.

The fuel distributor however clarified that the spillage has not in any way affected the supply of petroleum products in the area.

“We have sufficient stocks for all the grades across our depots countrywide,” the company said.

It also urged area residents to stay clear of the spillage site to enable Kenya Pipeline to undertake the repairs on the pipeline.
