A Nairobi court has issued summons
to Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi, requiring him to appear to face
charges relating to the fraudulent registration of land.
According to the charge sheet, the
MP is to be charged alongside two others: Shelmith Karungri Maina and Gathii
Irungu.
It is alleged that on or before March
26, 2020, “at an unknown location within the Republic of Kenya, the accused
persons, jointly with others not before the court, conspired to defraud land
parcel reference No. RUIRU EAST/JUJA EAST BLOCK 2/36, the property of Julius
Gitonga Githinji. The land, measuring approximately 1.310 hectares, is
allegedly to be valued at Ksh.10 million.”
In count two they are charged with
obtaining registration of land by false pretences contrary to Section 320 of
the Penal Code.
The prosecution claims that Koimburi
and Shelmith, on or before March 26, 2020, at the Thika District Land Registry
in Kiambu County, allegedly obtained the registration of the land parcel through
false pretences and without legal right, with intent to defraud.
They are further charged with
another count of uttering false documents.
