Former TV journalist Jacque Maribe on Friday took to the stand in the Monica Kimani murder case, and sought to recreate her movements and establish an alibi for the said day in order to prove that she could neither have been present at the crime scene nor committed the act.

Maribe narrated that on the night Monica was murdered – September 19, 2018 – she was at an entertainment joint with former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and his entourage.

The ex-news anchor recounted leaving her work place at around 10pm and meeting Sonko who was headed inside for a late night interview.

She then proceeded to Q-Lounge, right opposite her work place, where she and a few of the people she were with watched the Sonko interview on her phone until it ran out of charge.

A little while later, one of her work colleagues informed her that Jowie was trying to reach her, and she called him later on and informed him that she was headed to another entertainment joint in Westlands with Sonko and his entourage.

She further added that Jowie, who was her fiancée at the time, joined them at the club later on but sat at a different table from the one they were occupying.

Sonko has – in a series of tweets - since come out to address Maribe’s testimony, saying that it is in fact the correct sequence of events.

“On this matter, if I'm summoned by the court, I’ll tell the truth and nothing but the truth. Na kwa mukhtasari tu (in summary) I'm not the type of friend who disowns his friends at times of trouble. It's true that l was with Jacque Maribe at Citizen TV when I was being interviewed on the JKL show on the 19th of September, 2018, from about 9:45 pm,” he wrote.

“After the show, I volunteered to take all those who were with me for kamvinyo and nyama choma kule club forty forty which belonged to my friend... Tulipiga sherehe...around 4am I left for home.”
