As schools re-open countrywide following the long christmas holiday, over 100 students from Kirinyaga County are set to benefit from a new education and mentorship program targeting orphaned learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The initiative dubbed 'Tupange Kesho na Masomo' is a combination of scholarships, mentorship programs, and additional support such as shopping packages.

According to Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina who is spearheading the initiative, 100 children from underprivileged families will be sponsored for their Form 1 to Form 4 education across all 20 wards in Kirinyaga County.

"Some of the beneficiaries, especially those from really needy families, get a shopping package of Ksh.5,000. We also follow up on the students' performances and their well-being in our holistic approach to guarantee their success," said the legislator.

Last year alone, the initiative supported over 500 orphans, specially-abled children, and those from underprivileged families across Kirinyaga.
