Investigations after a charcoal trader's dismembered body found in shallow grave

A family in Kagio town, Kirinyaga County, is in shock after the body parts of a 24-year-old man, Morris Murimi, who went missing a month ago, were discovered in a forest in Ndia constituency.

According to Kirinyaga West Sub-County Police Commander Moses Koskei, Murimi was reported missing on August 7, 2024, by his family. His dismembered body was found in Kiamugungo Forest.

"We had been searching for him with the family, but unfortunately, his body was found cut into pieces and buried in a shallow grave," said Koskei.

The gruesome discovery was made after villagers reported a dog carrying a human leg. "We were alerted when a dog was seen eating a decomposing human leg.

The smell led us to the location of the body parts, some scattered, others buried in a shallow grave," Koskei explained.

Murimi's family recounted their last interaction with him.

His mother, Grace Wangari, revealed that Murimi, a charcoal trader, had been called by a customer to collect charcoal at Kiamugungo village before his disappearance.

"I can't believe the person who contacted my son could rob him of his motorcycle and then brutally kill him," said Edward Waweru, Murimi's father.

Leah Wambui, the deceased's wife, identified her husband's remains by the clothes he had been wearing.

"After being contacted by detectives, we went to Kiamugungo Forest. I recognized his clothes. It was devastating to see his body cut into pieces at the joints," she said.

The remains have been taken to Kerugoya Mortuary for postmortem and DNA analysis as investigations continue.

"We want justice for my son, and we hope the suspects will be arrested and prosecuted soon," said Grace Wangari.
