‘If you want to travel all over the world, become a cabin crew’: Boniface Mwangi faults President Ruto

Speaking on Citizen TV's JKLive Show on Wednesday, Mwangi called the president "a tourist" and suggested that instead of continuously using taxpayer funds for foreign trips, he think about changing careers.

The vocal activist proposed that President Ruto think about resigning and joining the cabin crew in order to travel for free after the in-and-out tours around the world.

“If the president wants to travel for free all over the world, then he should become a cabin crew, become an air hostess. But sio ukuwe president then tourist; he is never in this country,” said Mwangi.

According to Mwangi, the Kenya Kwanza regime has been crying foul that the government’s coffers are empty yet it is able to finance Ruto’s travel and any activities that seem beneficial to the administration.

He objected to the current contentious Finance Bill 2024, pointing out provisions that were already budgeted for in the current fiscal year, including upgrades to the State House, funding for the Prime Cabinet Secretary's office, and support for the president's and his deputy's spouses.

“The call is not about amending the Finance Bill, it is about killing it. Come back to the people, engage them and say, what do you want done? Because our government says they are broke but our president is never in Kenya, he is ever flying,” he said.

“We say the government is broke, but we have money for renovations, we are giving billions to their spouses, we are giving Mudavadi and illegal office money…we are spending money where we shouldn’t be spending.”

Mwangi's remarks are in response to criticism levelled at the state leader's frequent travels.

President Ruto in his defence maintained the foreign trips are beneficial to the country and would bring goodies to Kenyans, adding that his visits were not for leisure but were focused on creating jobs and lobbying for investments.

“Most people have been wondering what is the President going to do here and there; I am not travelling as a tourist, I am travelling kupanga mambo ya Kenya, to create jobs and investments across the globe,” he said during a Thanksgiving Mass at Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High School in Kisii County last year.

“I have gone to Germany, Canada, Saudi Arabia and many other regions that have promised me jobs. Now I have to plan for the jobs and ensure the youths are aligned to work in those countries.”
