'I will lead Kenyans to boycott Ruto leadership,' Kalonzo decries high cost of living

Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has taken a swipe at the Kenya Kwanza administration over the rising cost of living and continued allegations that they found empty coffers.

Kalonzo spoke at a roadside meeting in Embu Town on Tuesday while in the company of other Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leaders where he also hit out at the Kenya Kwanza government for failing to keep the promises made during campaigns.

The Wiper boss claimed that the President William Ruto-led administration disregards the lives of Kenyans, accusing the regime of blatant disregard of human rights for failing to sort out the high cost of living.

Kalonzo thus maintained that Azimio will remain steadfast in holding the government to account over the high cost of living, adding that his counterparts in Kenya Kwanza were hell-bent on addressing the matter during their Bomas talks.

He called on Kenyans and leaders to help the country get rid of greed, bad policies and corruption, saying he will not wait until 2027 to tackle President Ruto and his government.

“'I will lead Kenyans who are already fed up with the regime who have thrived on lies and oppressing common mwananchi to register their dissatisfaction with the Ruto-led administration,” Kalonzo said.

He further accused the government of employing high-handed tactics through the order for parents to pay school fees via the eCitizen platform.

The former Vice President condemned the imposition of the payment method on parents and called for reconsideration of the policy.

He said there should be a more consultative and inclusive approach in decision-making processes in the Ministry of Education, adding that the government should prioritise affordability and accessibility in education.

The remarks come as the High Court on Tuesday extended orders blocking the government directive for parents to pay school fees for their children through the eCitizen platform.

While extending the orders, Justice Chacha Mwita ruled that the government would not be prejudiced by the orders.
