‘I still love and cherish you,’ DP Gachagua tells Gladys Boss over treason remarks
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has
expressed a non-vengeful spirit towards National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys
Boss despite her vow to send him home through impeachment and push for him to
be charged with treason.
While submitting his defence before the House
on Tuesday evening, Gachagua ran down memory lane to when his boss, President
William Ruto, was the deputy president and he (Gachagua) was an MP and the two were
facing political persecution from the Jubilee government.
Gachagua sensationally recalled a specific
time when he was arrested and detained at the Directorate of Criminal
Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Kiambu.
He said that Gladys Boss, being the Uasin
Gishu Woman Representative at the time, was at the frontline in the United
Democratic Alliance (UDA) political camp to come to his aid.
According to the DP, the Deputy Speaker who
is now eager to witness his downfall brought him breakfast, and lunch,
comforted him and mobilised Ksh.12.5 million resources for his release.
Gachagua consequently reiterated that he
harbours no bad blood against the MP, noting that in spite of her remarks amid his
impeachment hearing, he still loves and remembers her kind gesture in 2022.
“Boss Shollei, I heard you this morning
saying that I should be charged with treason but my sister I am a grateful man
and I remember during the last administration when I was arrested on fabricated
charges for standing with President William Ruto against the wish of the
government at that time. Gladys Shollei came and sat with me at DCI HQ, brought
me tea, and lunch, sat with me, comforted me,” stated the DP.
“At court, she coordinated the collection of
Ksh.12.5 million as my cash bail. She came to see me in Gigiri for 4 days and
had very kind words. Despite what you have said my sister, I do remember that
one good thing you did for me, I love you and cherish you.”
During the Parliamentary session where MPs
tabled their submissions for ousting the DP, Boss criticised the country’s second-in-command
for disclosing the details of the Kenya Kwanza pre-election pact, citing
that it violated the Non-Disclosure Agreements signed by the parties.
She cited another five grounds for
impeachment including a Githurai rally in which Gachagua allegedly led chants
saying ‘Ruto must go,’ labelling the comments as 'unbecoming' for a person who
holds the second highest office in government.
"During the rally in Githurai which was
presided over by the DP, he was involved in leading chants saying ‘Ruto must go’
and is a one-term President. He never denounced those statements. What that
amounts to is that he is guilty of treason and other offences," Boss
claimed.
As a result, Boss made references to the
remarks made on September 23, 2024, in Uasin Gishu when she put the DP on
notice.
"I will send you home myself. I am
putting you on notice. You are going to be impeached, and I can confirm that to
you," she said then.
