I am not bankrupt – Jirongo

Presidential aspirant Cyrus Jirongo has dismissed allegations linking him to bankruptcy.

In a letter dated 10th October 2017, addressed to Chief Justice, David Maraga, Jirongo issued a complaint on media reports purporting that he has been served with a bankruptcy notice by the High Court.

“I have learned with shock from media reports that the High Court declared me bankrupt…” read the letter. “I was taken by surprise by these media reports, which began trending yesterday evening as I have never been served with any decree, bankruptcy notice or other court proceedings.”

Jirongo was on Tuesday declared bankrupt after he was unable to pay a debt of Sh700 million. Commercial Court judge Olga Sewe ruled in favour of businessman Sammy Kogo, Mr Jirongo’s creditor, and ordered that the latter’s estate should be placed under receivership.

The former Lugari MP also added that his court file, which contains the documents of his case, insolvency cause No.3 of 2017, has gone missing from the registry.

Jirongo has therefore appealed to the judiciary to facilitate the availability of his missing courts files in order to protect the integrity of its contents.

“I believe that the integrity of the documents in the file is at risk of either being altered, or plucked out especially on the aspect of service,” continued the report.

The politician said that he has been in close communication with the advocacy firm, which handled the prosecution and they have not relayed any notice to him.

He, however, ruled out the ‘negative publicity’ as a fraudulent scheme meant to cripple and embarrass him financially and socially.
