Housing levy: Kalonzo faults Gov't for imposing excess taxes on Kenyans
Wiper party leader
Kalonzo Musyoka has faulted the Kenya Kwanza government saying the housing levy
is being implemented without the support of the taxpayers.
Kalonzo, who was
speaking in Kuria West, Migori County, after opening the Wiper party office,
said the President William Ruto administration has shown the highest level of
dictatorship in implementing the programme.
He said it’s
unfortunate that the government is going to deduct money from Kenyans to fund the
affordable housing projects without their express authority.
The Wiper party
leader said the affordable housing project is being forced into the throats of
the Kenyans illegally.
He stated that the
opposition Azimio la Umoja One Kenya team will not support such a violation of
the Constitution and therefore they will take necessary action.
“Tutawapinga, kwa mfano hii kuleta ushuru ya
lazima vile mama amesema kiwanja ni ya serikali ata huulizi Wakenya tuweke wapi
na kulamizisha Wakenya kutoa ushuru kwa lazima...jana ameweka sahihi na kusema
lazima utoe hii, upende usipende...na Wakenya wakipiga kelele kama huko Kericho
na huko Bomet wanasema watawashika,” said Kalonzo.
The former Vice
President said it’s unfortunate that Kenyans who are already overburdened by
taxes are still being forced to pay more.
The Wiper party boss
said Kenyans are suffering because they are not able to access basic needs like
food and health because “the government does not care about the people.”
He said they will
continue to criticize the government until it responds to the demands of the
people of Kenya.
Kalonzo is expected to have a series of meetings in Kisii County on Thursday.
