Almost a week after Haitian Prime Minister Dr Ariel Henry signed a security deal with President William Ruto at State House Nairobi, he is yet to set foot in his country.

The latest news on Prime Minister Henry Ariel is that he was forced to land in Puerto Rico after an attempt to return to his country failed.

The prime minister's whereabouts were unknown for days until last evening when he flew from New Jersey to the US territory of Puerto Rico.

According to media reports, Henry was expected to travel to the Dominican Republic and later fly to Haiti, but hours before he arrived in Puerto Rico, the Dominican government announced that it was immediately suspending all air traffic with Haiti.

Jimmy Chérizier alias "Barbecue" the gang leader behind the violence in Haiti has warned that there will be a "civil war" if Haiti’s Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, does not step down.

The gang leader has been opposed to the prime minister since he took over power shortly after the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021, without an election. Critics of Mr Henry argue his rule is illegitimate.

The Haitian prime minister was in Kenya to sign an agreement to deploy a contingent of 1,000 police officers to Haiti to lead a multinational mission that will help restore law and order in the Caribbean nation.
