'Guns Galore,' 'Debt of Shame' and other Citizen TV stories nominated for journalism awards

Seven captivating Citizen TV feature stories
have been shortlisted for the Media Council of Kenya’s (MCK) 2022 Annual
Journalism Excellence Awards (AJEA).
Multimedia Editor Waihiga Mwaura, investigative
journalist Purity Mwambia, her health counterpart Raquel Muigai, digital
reporter Steven Shitera, reporter Ben Kirui and cameraperson Mohammed Adam, all
stand a chance to be feted for their roles in the said productions at the
awards ceremony that recognizes journalistic excellence in Kenya.
Mwaura is one of three journalists
shortlisted in the Innovation and Business Reporting (TV) category for his
‘Debt of Shame’ feature which highlighted how some digital lenders are
employing unorthodox tactics to recover their debt
Mwambia has been nominated in the
Investigative Reporting (TV) segment for her 'Guns Galore' feature which took
aim at some members of the National Police Service for allegedly renting out
their firearms and uniforms to criminals.
Muigai, on the other hand, has been nominated
in two categories – Development Reporting (TV) and Environment Reporting (TV) –
for her works in the features 'Meeting Special Needs' and 'Dry Death' respectively.
Shitera has been shortlisted for the Sports
Reporting (Digital) bracket while Kirui’s 'Healed and Detained' feature also
made the cut in the Health Reporting (TV) category.
Adam has likewise been named in the
Cameraperson of the Year category for his works in the feature, 'Portraits of
Drought'.
Radio Citizen Reporter Zipporah Kariuki and
her Bahari FM counterpart Faiz Abdallah are also among the finalists.
