Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has come out
strongly against Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo, accusing her of politicising
recent incidents of insecurity and undermining public officials.
The Governor, while on an official visit to Elsa Ntirim in Burat Ward, dismissed claims made in Parliament by the Senator regarding the safety of residents in Isiolo. He maintained that recent violent cases, including the death of a woman and her four children in a house fire, as well as the passing of a local blogger, were not politically linked but stemmed from personal and accidental circumstances.
The incident in Bulapesa, where the family
perished, was attributed to a domestic dispute, while the blogger is reported
to have succumbed to injuries sustained after being hit by a truck.
The Governor accused unnamed political
figures of using such incidents to incite the public and stir emotions for
political mileage, warning that such actions threaten the fragile peace in the
region.
"I would also like to talk about two
things that happened recently in Bulapesa, where a mother and her children were
burned — that is a very unfortunate incident. But we would like to tell
politicians to stop politicizing everything,” said Guyo.
He added: “According to the preliminary
investigation, it appears the matter was related to a love affair, a domestic
issue… So if you say such a domestic issue is political, is that really fair? I
would like to urge our leaders to work together with government officials to
ensure our people receive proper services."
The Governor also cautioned against the use
of parliamentary platforms to attack civil servants such as the County
Commissioner, who he said do not have the chance to respond publicly.
Guyo survived a recent impeachment attempt
after the Senate quashed the motion due to technical irregularities in the
process initiated by Members of the County Assembly. He used the occasion to
warn his political rivals that leadership is earned through the ballot, not
shortcuts.
During the tour, the Governor inspected two
completed water projects under the FLOCCA climate action program. The
initiative is benefiting over 100 farmers in Elsa Ntirim and has revived a
local irrigation scheme.
The County Government says the projects aim
to improve agricultural productivity and build resilience among communities
affected by climate change.
