Got an ID? You can now vote in Jubilee Party primaries

Kenyans who want to cast their ballots in the ongoing Jubilee Party primaries will now only need to present their national identity card (ID) at polling stations, Jubilee Party Elections Board Chair Andrew Musangi has announced.

Speaking in at a press conference at Jubilee Party’s headquarters on Tuesday, April 25, Musangi said that those whose names are not on the official party register will be allowed to take part in the exercise – contrary to the party’s earlier position.

“If the voter’s name does not appear in the register but has a National Identity card, he or she should be allowed to cast their vote,” said Musangi.

The move, Musangi explained, is aimed at ensuring that party supporters are not locked out of the process on register technicalities – this coming after complaints of missing names on the register.

Poll officials have been instructed to add to the party register the names of those who cast their votes using IDs alone.

2017 party primaries have been marked by numerous hiccups – this forcing several parties – among them Jubilee, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), and Amani National Congress (ANC) – to alter nomination schedules and regulations.
