Getaway car used in Nairobi West heist found being re-painted
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday arrested three more suspects in the Ksh. 72 million heist, from a Standard Chartered Bank ATM in Nairobi West.
Two vehicles, believed to have been used were also recovered at a garage dubbed, Owino’s garage, in Kikuyu Town.
One of the vehicles, a Toyota Noah, was already undergoing a paint job.
The three join six G4S employees who were arraigned on Friday and ordered detained at Langata police station for 7 days to allow for completion of investigations.
The robbery happened early Thursday morning, when three men allegedly posing as police officers escorting G4S officials transferring cash to an ATM, turned out to be thugs who made away with the cash.
Earlier, 13 cash boxes were recovered empty in Thogoto Forest, Kiambu.
Sources however said the Ksh.72 million which was stolen by three criminals posing as police officers on escort on Thursday is still missing.
A report from Kikuyu Police Station said a man tipped off police after he spotted broken cash boxes and bags from different banks.
On reaching the scene, they discovered empty bags from Standard Chartered Bank, Stanbic Bank, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Barclays Bank.
