Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has ordered the dismissal and arrest of a sub-chief in Mathira constituency, Nyeri County, who was allegedly busted on a drinking spree during his visit.

Addressing residents of Tumutumu village on Saturday afternoon, Gachagua called out the administrator for taking alcohol before the stipulated time while he as the deputy president was in his locality.

The DP chided the unidentified Assistant Chief over the behaviour as he wondered how a public servant could be at a liquor joint in broad daylight.

“Saa hii kuna chief mmoja yuko kwa bar…hapa anakunywa. Anakunywa saa hii na ni saa saba?” He posed.

DP Gachagua thus ordered the County Commissioner to replace the chief warning that no administrator will be allowed to work under the influence of alcohol.

According to the deputy president, chiefs are required to be at the forefront in the crackdown against illicit brew in their respective regions and cannot effectively accomplish their tasks while abusing the same drugs they are fighting.

“Hapa County Commissioner utatafuta Assistant Chief. Hakuna chief mlevi atafanya kazi kwa hii Kenya; chief ni lazima aamue –akunywe pombe ama afanye kazi kwa sababu ile kazi nyingi ni ya kupigana na pombe,” he warned.

The DP's remarks come at a time when the government has stepped up the fight against illicit brew with a focus on the Mount Kenya region.
