Gachagua allies hit back at Aden Duale over calls for CS Muturi’s resignation
Allies of former Deputy President
Rigathi Gachagua have strongly criticized Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden
Duale and other UDA lawmakers over their calls for Public Service CS Justin
Muturi to resign.
The leaders accused Duale of
attacking a colleague who has been vocal about the government's failure to curb
the rising cases of kidnappings and enforced disappearances.
The calls for Muturi’s resignation
come after he emerged as the sole Cabinet voice against the government’s
inability to address the growing insecurity crisis.
Muturi, a former Attorney General,
has openly criticized President William Ruto’s administration, warning that the
ongoing abductions and killings are damaging the country’s reputation.
He has urged the president to take
decisive action to end the crisis.
Duale, speaking at a separatefunction in Garissa County, insisted that Cabinet members must respect their
appointing authority, arguing that any CS who is unhappy with the government
should resign instead of publicly opposing it.
Kipkelion East MP Joseph Cherorot
echoed Duale’s sentiments, accusing Muturi of undermining the administration he
serves.
However, during a church service at
the Almighty God Church in Mathioya, Murang’a County, on Sunday, Gachagua’s
allies strongly defended Muturi.
Maragua MP Mary Wamaua and Naivasha
MP Jane Kihara asserted that Muturi was speaking the truth about the security
crisis and that instead of silencing him, the government should focus on
protecting Kenyans.
Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu and
Gatanga MP Edward Muriu also criticized the government’s handling of abductions,
calling for accountability from security agencies.
They accused the administration of
deflecting from the real issue by attacking Muturi.
Former DP Gachagua, who was also
present, reiterated his stance that he has been engaging with leaders across
the country and will present a comprehensive report on Kenya’s political future
on February 9.
He criticized the government’s
decision to prioritize political maneuvering over addressing key issues
affecting citizens, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region.
Gachagua further condemned President
William Ruto’s administration for allocating resources to support peace efforts
in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) while failing to tackle the
insecurity challenges within Kenya.
He questioned the logic behind assisting
foreign nations when Kenyans continue to live in fear due to increased cases of
abductions.
“We cannot be talking about peace in
DRC while Kenyans are crying over kidnappings and killings. Our priority should
be our people,” Gachagua stated.
He also alleged that public funds
meant for development were being diverted to regain political support in Mt.
Kenya, warning residents against accepting money he claimed was being used as a
tool for manipulation.
