Duale, UDA MPs urge CS Muturi to resign for criticising gov’t

Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and a section of ruling UDA lawmakers have called for the resignation of his Public Service counterpart Justin Muturi.

Their calls come with the emergence of Muturi as the sole voice from Cabinet against the inability of the government to stop the epidemic of abductions and killings in the country, the former Attorney General urging President William Ruto to slam the brakes, stating the status quo risks damaging the country’s reputation.

He has emerged as the lone voice from Cabinet, openly critical of the government, and the appointing authority, his boss, President William Ruto by extension, and has since come under a barrage of political attacks.

“So, I really want to tell our colleagues, and we must respect, and if you are very unhappy and you are a CS, the best thing for you to do is to resign. It is not fair for you to engage in a very unhealthy, inappropriate altercation with your appointing authority, the president,” said Duale.

Kipkelion East MP Joseph Cherorot added, “Tunaona Muturi anatupiga sana, anapiga serikali ambayo anakulia, my advise to you, just resign and leave us alone na asivuruge wenzetu.”

In Mandera County, Muturi was the subject of calls that were directed his way, to quit.

On his home turf, a similar hymn sheet was deployed, lawmakers from the ruling party calling for resignation.

Their sentiments were shared by Environment CS Aden Duale, who spoke during a separate function in Garissa County.

“So, I really want to tell our colleagues, and we must respect, and if you are very unhappy and you are a CS, the best thing for you to do is to resign,” said Duale.

On Friday, Muturi sustained his criticism, pointing at President Ruto to end abductions when he visited Nairobi Funeral Home following the discovery of one of the bodies of the Mlolongo Four who went missing in December 2024, denouncing enforced disappearances that have risen since June 2024, attracting backlash from lawmakers subscribing to the ruling party.
