Ex-Speaker banned from parliament for life after bullying inquiry finds him guilty

John Bercow will be barred from entering parliament buildings for the rest of his life after the standards watchdog found him guilty of bullying House of Commons staff.

According to Sky News, which cited a report published by the Independent Expert Panel into the former Commons speaker's conduct, Bercow was described as a "serial liar" and "serial bully."

The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, Kathryn Stone, is believed to have found him guilty of 21 claims made against him relating to his behavior during his decade as speaker.

The former Speaker is accused of throwing a cellphone, swearing at officials, and making a racially and sexually discriminatory remark.

Mr Bercrow's behavior "fell very far below that which the public has a right to expect from any member of parliament," according to the report, and if he were still a sitting MP, it would have been recommended that "he be expelled by resolution of the House."

"As it is, we recommend that he should never be permitted a pass to the parliamentary estate," the report concludes.

The former speaker called the report a "travesty of justice," adding, "Parliament is supposed to be the highest court in the land."

"This inquiry, which lasted a dreadful 22 months at a high cost to the taxpayer, has failed miserably."

"At the end of the day, the panel simply stated that I should be denied a parliamentary pass, which I have never applied for and do not desire." That is the position's absurdity.

"Don't believe the establishment's spin that I've been barred for life." I can still attend debates with the assistance of a helpful passholder or as a member of the general public."

Mr Bercow has denied the allegations against him on numerous occasions.
