Former Police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso appointed Kenya Coast Guard Service Director-General
According to a Gazette Notice dated April 12, 2023, Shioso has been appointed to the position for a period of four years.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 17 (1) of the Kenya Coast Guard Service Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint— Bruno Isohi Shioso to be the Director-General of the Kenya Coast Guard Service, for a period of four (4) years, with effect from the 12th April, 2023,” reads the Gazette Notice.
Prior to the new appointment, Shioso was the Commandant of the National Police College Main Campus Kiganjo, a position he took over in November 2022 from Japhet Koome after his appointment to be the Inspector General of Police.
Shioso previously served at the UN headquarters in New York as a Transnational Organized Crime Expert.
He also served as the deputy director at the Banking Fraud Investigations Unit (BFIU) and as a longtime personal assistant to former Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro.
The Kenya Coast Guard Service where Shioso will serve as the Director-General is responsible for enforcing maritime security, patrolling Kenya's territorial waters, preventing unlawful fishing, piracy, human and drug trafficking, smuggling and prevention of environmental damage.
